
Spartans Win Both Games Of Doubleheader Over Bobcats
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The University of Tampa baseball team (5-0) won both ends of a doubleheader against the Georgia College Bobcats (0-2) today at John Kurtz Field by final scores of 4-3 and 6-4, respectively.
In the first game, Michael Calkins got the start and allowed two runs over four innings pitched with six strikeouts.
Christopher Williams, backed by the offensive duo of Casey Scoggins and Laz Rivera, picked up his second win in as many appearances this season. He pitched five innings in relief of Calkins, allowing just two hits and an unearned run while striking out 10.
Both finished with two hits in three and four at-bats, respectively, with Scoggins giving the Spartans the lead they would need to win with a two-out two-run single in the fifth. Rivera's first home run as a Spartan doubled the lead to 4-2 in the sixth.
In the second game, J.D. Osbourne led the team with three RBI, including a go-ahead two-run single with the bases loaded in the top of the ninth that gave the Spartans a 6-4 lead.
Kevin Santa had a season-high three hits while Scoggins collected two more hits, a RBI and scored two runs, giving him three runs scored and three RBI total on the day.
Chris McCormick picked up the win in relief, pitching five shutout innings with six strikeouts in relief of David Heintz, who started the game.
The Spartans are back in action tomorrow for the finale of their three-game series with Georgia College. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 P.M. ET.
