
Spartans Capture Game Three Win Over Pioneers
The University of Tampa baseball team took the third and final game from the Pioneers, 7-4.
TUSCULUM, TN. - The No. 2 University of Tampa Spartans took on the No. 25 ranked Tusculum Pioneers for game three and were victorious.

How it happened
- The Spartans wasted no time getting started in the top of the first inning as Kevin Santa singled to right center. Santa would then steal second base to put the Spartans in scoring range. Darren Miller came to the plate and hit a homerun to left center giving the Spartans a 2-0 lead.
- In the top of the second Connor Crile was the first batter on base as he was walked (3-1). Kyle Cotilletta then came to the plate and grounded out to the pitcher, advancing Crile to second. Richie Rivera doubled down the left field, scoring Crile. Danny Lee singled to left field and sent R. Rivera across the plate to give the Spartans a 4-0 lead over the Pioneers.
- The Pioneers got on the board after they scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning.
- The Spartans would pick up one run in the top of the sixth to make the score 5-2.
- The Pioneers retaliated in the bottom of the sixth by scoring two runs to make the score a close 5-4.
- In the top of the seventh inning, Miller hit another homerun and increased the Spartans lead to 6-4.
- Santa started out the top of the ninth with a double down the right field line. Miller advanced Santa to third after hitting a double to left center. Laz Rivera came up to the plate and singled through the left side, scoring Santa and advancing Miller to third base.
- The Spartans went on to defeat the Pioneers 7-4.
Inside the Stats
- R. Rivera went 3-4 with one double, one run, and one RBI.
- Miller went 3-5 with two runs, two homers, and three RBI.
- Cotilletta went 2-4 with one RBI.
Beyond the Boxscore
- After hitting two home runs on the weekend, Miller has now recorded 10 home runs, second behind Osborne (14).
- Colton Widdows improves his record to 5-0.
