
Malcom, Leasure Sweep SSC Player of the Week Honors
MELBOURNE, Fla. - University of Tampa baseball players John Malcom and Jordan Leasure were presented Sunshine State Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week honors on Monday.
Malcom led the Tampa offense during the opening weekend series against Saint Leo. Malcom sported a .333 batting average, .556 on-base percentage, and 1.000 slugging percentage across the two games. The Detroit native drove in four runs and tallied six total bases with two extra-base hits, including a home run. He also drew two walks and was hit by a pitch during the doubleheader.
Leasure tallied 11 strikeouts in 4.2 innings of relief work for the Spartans to earn the Pitcher of the Week nod. The Tampa product allowed three hits and no earned runs while on the bump for Tampa. He kept the 18 batters he faced to a collective .167 batting average and issued no walks in his first appearance of the year.
Athletes of the Week are chosen from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of February 22 to 28, 2021. Athletes are nominated by Athletic Communication Directors of member institutions.
