
Drew Ehrhard Sets UT Hits Record as Spartans Blank No. 10 Newberry
NEWBERRY, S.C. - The No. 7 University of Tampa (38-9) baseball team played against No. 10 Newberry College (41-10) at the Smith Road Complex in a matchup featuring a pair of national top-10 teams. The game ended with a final score of 11-0 in favor of Tampa.
Tampa had an impressive offensive performance, scoring runs in seven out of the nine innings played. They had a total of 12 hits and 10 RBI, with four home runs, hit by Jordan Lala, Drew Ehrhard, J.D. Urso, and Nico Saladino.
Ehrhard had a standout game, as he would break the UT all-time hits record. Number 340 came in the sixth inning when he blasted a solo home run to pass Ronnie Merrill's school record that stood intact for 23 years. Ehrhard would finish with two hits, four runs, and one RBI.
Urso also contributed two hits, one run, and one RBI, coming on his first-inning home run to start the Spartan scoring.
Tampa's pitching also played a significant role in their victory, with Michael Paul pitching 7.0 innings and allowing no runs. He had three strikeouts and only one walk, moving to 6-2 on the season. Eli Thurmond pitched the final two innings and also did not allow any runs, with four strikeouts.
The same teams will meet on Friday in a doubleheader that is slated to begin at 3 p.m.
