Road trip to Melbourne for No. 1 Tampa this weekend

MELBOURNE, FL. The #1 University of Tampa baseball team will travel to Melbourne to take on a three-game series against Florida Tech.

Tampa (32-6)
- The No. 1 Spartans swept Rollins over the weekend, improving to 32-6 on the season and 16-2 in Sunshine State Conference play, expanding to a two-and-a-half-game lead at the No. 1 spot in the conference rankings. The Spartans' bats were alive last weekend as they combined 46 hits in the three games and outscored the Tars 38-13 in the series sweep. The Spartans combined for 16 walks throughout the three games, five bags stolen, and 12 extra base hits. Brayden Woodburn had the hot bat over the weekend; he was 11-15 at the plate, including bringing in two runs throughout each game in the series. J.D. Urso also provided offense throughout the weekend. He was 7-14 at the dish, scoring seven runs as well. C.J. Williams continues to showcase why he is the nation's best ace by throwing seven scoreless innings in the series opener last Friday night and picking up the win against the Tar's to improve to 8-2 on the season. Williams looks to continue his excellence on the mound, and Woodburn and Urso look to continue to swing hot bats as the Spartans travel to Melbourne to take on Florida Tech for a three-game series.
Florida Tech (23-18)
- The Panthers are 23-18 on the season and 6th in the Sunshine State Conference with a 13-11 record. Florida Tech opened up the season by taking the first two of three from Spring Hill College and taking the series opener against Barton College before dropping the next three to them. Then the Panthers became winners of five of their next seven, including wins against Flagler, Augusta, and then No. 4 Florida-Southern. After dropping four of their next five, the Panthers then rattled off six straight wins in single games to West Virginia Wesleyan, Barry, sweeping Palm Beach Atlantic, and taking the series opener against Lynn; however, the Panthers then dropped five of their next seven, including dropping series to Lynn and Saint Leo. The Panthers are currently winners of three straight series, taking two of three from each No. 21 Rollins, Embry-Riddle, and Eckerd. The Panthers look to continue their series-winning streak, and they host No. 1 Tampa for a three-game set.
