Rollins Defeats Tampa in Overtime Thriller
WINTER PARK, Fla. - Despite a valiant comeback in the second half, The University of Tampa men's basketball team (7-5, 1-2 SSC) could not hold off Rollins College (11-3, 4-0 SSC) in a 70-64 contest that was decided in overtime.
Tampa came back with a mission after half time, where it trailed 29-17. UT tied the game at the 8:00 mark with a three-pointer by Rashad Callaway. A long range shot by Glyn Hunter gave the Spartans the lead at the 6:42 mark as they went on to outscore the Tars 41-29 in the second half of play.
Jonathan Ball led Tampa in scoring with 23 points, connecting on four three pointers. Rashad Callaway added 12 points as did Fred Woods.
The Spartans played the overtime period shorthanded as they were without the services of two of its starters in Woods and Matt Tomaszewski. With both post players fouled out, senior Arnaldo Abreu contributed four points and five rebounds off the bench in 15 minutes of play.
