No. 14 Florida Southern Too Much For Visiting Spartans
LAKELAND, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's basketball team was outscored by 20 point s in the second half as its Sunshine State Conference rival and No. 14 Florida College cruise to a 91-65 victory over the Spartans on Wednesday.
Tampa has now dropped five of its past six games and sits at 13-5 on the season, including a 1-5 SSC display. The Mocs improve to 13-2 and 5-1 in league play. UT's struggles against FSC continue as the Spartans have now dropped 10 straight to the Mocs, dating back to the 2007-08 season.
After trailing by as many as 12 points in the first half, Tampa closed the half on an 8-2 run to head to the break with a 43-37 deficit. Florida Southern would turn a 10-point lead at the 5:33 mark to 26 points in a little over four minutes in the second half.
Da'Markco Foster scored 19 points to lead the Spartans as Jon Riles also finished in double figures with 15. Foster and Vincent Cornu each pulled down nine rebounds to lead all Spartans.
The Spartans shot 35.1 percent from the field, and finished 3-for-17 from 3-point range. The Mocs shot an even 50 percent while also connecting on 10 shots from long range.
Tampa will travel to Miami Shores, Fla., for a Saturday game at SSC opponent Barry University. The game is scheduled for 2 p.m. Live stats and a webcast will be available through TampaSpartans.com.
