Spartan Men’s Basketball Top FIT
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's basketball team rode a 43 point second half to defeat visiting Florida Tech 77-74. The Spartans improve their season tally to 14-6 with a 2-6 mark in Sunshine State Conference matchups while the Panthers dip to 7-10 and 1-7 in conference play.
Guard Anthony Griffis led the home squad with 23 points while forward Vincent Cornu and guard Austin Rettig each recorded career highs with 17 and 15 points respectively.
The freshman Rettig led UT with eight rebounds to complement Cornu's seven while Terrell Pritchett scored eight points and picked up five assists.
FIT led the first half off the strong play of forward Terrance Tubbs, leading all players with 33 total points on the game. Tampa shot 52% as a team in the first half, despite the Panthers taking the premier half 40-34.
The Spartans scored 43 points in the second half over the visiting squad to seal the victory. Forward Jason Brown provided some second half defense, contributing two blocks and two defensive rebounds off the bench.
The Tampa squad hits the road for the weekend as they head to West Palm Beach, Fla. to face Palm Beach Atlantic in a Saturday matinee set for 4 p.m. Live stats will be made available through www.tampaspartans.tv.
