Chargers Take Down the Spartans in a Close Battle

FLORENCE, Ala. - The University of Tampa men's basketball team loses a close battle with the UAH Chargers. 

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

All-time Series: Tampa now trails the all-time series versus the University of Alabama-Huntsville by a 3-2 mark.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
1st Half | The Spartans were on the scoreboard first with a jumper from junior Marcel Robinson. Sophomore Pat Bacon led all Spartans in the first half with 13 points and three rebounds. Anthony Gamble was the second leading point scorer with 10 points and two rebounds. The competition was neck and neck through the entire first half, as neither team led by more than a five point margin. 

2nd Half | Alabama-Huntsville took charge in the beginning of the second half, increasing their lead to 10 points. Then, behind the play of junior Grant Bryant, the Spartans cut the Chargers lead in half. Bryant contributed 10 points, six rebounds and three blocks, but the Chargers scored points late in the second half to secure their 91-86 win. 

INSIDE THE STATS:
• Bacon recorded 18 points, seven rebounds and one assist.

• Bryant was one rebound shy of a double-double before fouling out in the second half. 

• Anthony Gamble contributed 14 points and three rebounds.

• The Spartans bench contributed 37 points to the Chargers 23. 

• The Spartans were 30-68 from the field while the Chargers were 28-63.

• Tampa was able to force 8 turnovers while the Lion's tallied 11. 

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
• Freshman Brent Duncan scored his first collegiate points as a Spartan. 

• The Spartans held the lead five times during the competition.
