Tritons Defeat Spartans in Battle of the Bay

Tampa men's basketball falls to Eckerd College in SSC opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
1st Half | The Tritons scored first with a floater in the lane, but the Spartans quickly got on the board with a foul shot by senior Duke Shelton. Pat Bacon played a vital role on the offense totaling eight points. Shelton led the defense with six rebounds. Eckerd led the majority of the first half, but Tampa was unable to bounce back. Mekhi Biffle closed out the first half sinking two foul shots in the last second making the score 30-20.

2nd Half | Eckerd got on the board first to start the second half, but Tampa retaliated with a three point basket by Freddy Ibrahim. Offensively, Bacon continued to lead with 28 points. The Tritons stayed on top for the remainder of the half finishing the game with a final score of 65-49.

INSIDE THE STATS:

  • Pat Bacon led all Spartans with 28 points, four rebounds, and one assist.
  • Duke Shelton led the team defensively with 12 rebounds.
  • Freddy Ibrahim was the second leading point scorer with seven points, three rebounds, and two assists.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • This is Tampa and Eckerd's first SSC matchup of the season.
