Fort Lauderdale, Fla – The University of Tampa Men's Basketball team opened up the New Year with a matchup against the No. 1 team in the nation, Nova Southeastern.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
FIRST HALF: Tampa started the first half strong, showcasing resilience and energy with key plays like Tyson Leitao's early layup to tie the game at 2-2 and his tip-in to narrow the gap to 8-4. Trey Lane and Amarion Nimmers made impactful contributions, with Lane sinking consecutive three-pointers to energize the team and reduce the deficit to 20-27. Ryan Blount also provided a crucial boost, hitting a three-pointer to keep Tampa in the fight at 14-23. Defensively, the Spartans capitalized on Nova Southeastern's turnovers, including a key steal by Leitao that led to a scoring opportunity. Tampa's hustle on offensive rebounds, particularly from Leitao and Lane, demonstrated their determination to stay competitive.

SECOND HALF: Tampa's second half featured strong offensive moments as they steadily chipped away at Nova Southeastern's lead.
