Spartans Pass by Hawks With Ease in Blow Out

TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa lacrosse team defeated Shorter University by a score of 21-4. The goal total marked the most scored in the program's history. Tampa goes to 6-2 on the season while Shorter drops to 4-5.

The Spartans dominated this matchup right from the opening faceoff. Greg Griffo started the scoring with a goal less than two minutes in. Kevin Castle recorded the assist on the play.

Castle came back with a goal of his own four and a half minutes later to put Tampa up 2-0.

The first period ended after Tampa scored three more times. A.J. DeSimone had two while Jeff Clements added one of his own.

In the second period, Clements struck again extending the UT lead to 6-0.

At the end of the half Tampa had taken 31 shots, 14 of them on goal, and 18 groundballs.

The third period started off similar to the first, as DeSimone and Clements scored a minute and 15 seconds apart from each other.

Frank Lorono put the Spartans up by nine with his first goal of the season, and which would be his first of two on the game.

Midway through the third period James Christensen and Matthew Dellaquila each netted goals to make it an 11-0 lead for UT. It was Dellaquila's first of the season, but would not be his last.

Shorter finally got on the board with a goal by Scott Dangel, with Jordan Butz scoring minutes later.

Dellaquila had the final two goals of the third, completing his first hat trick of the season.

After scoring a team recorded of nine goals in the third period, Tampa scored another six in the fourth.

Lorono scored his second of the game in the fourth, and Joel McGowan netted back to back goals for his first tallies of the game.

Sophomore Nate Tembi scored his first of the season to make it a 20-3 lead for UT. Dellaquila scored his fourth of the game and the final goal for Tampa with two minutes remaining in the game.

Tampa finished the game with 65 shots, 37 of which were on goal. UT also went 14-14 on clear attempts and 20-28 on faceoffs.
