PAINESVILLE, Ohio- The University of Tampa Men's Lacrosse Team dropped a road matchup Wednesday afternoon to the top ranked Lake Erie College. The Storm jumped out to a quick led and never looked back, as they defeated the Spartans 13-7.
Tampa falls to 10-2, the No. 1 Lake Erie improves to 8-0. Nick Ferreiro was key on the face offs, as he won 19-23 attempts.
Conor Whipple led the Spartan attack as he recorded five points on the day. He netted two goals, while dishing out three assists. Mike Morris also contributed with two goals. On the face-off, senior Nick Ferriero went 19-23 while picking up 12 ground balls. Goalie A.J. Arnold record seven saves.
Lake Erie struck first, as they were able to net a goal just one minute into the contest. Tampa responded with a Morris goal two minutes later. The Storm then scored two more goals as they would hold the lead the rest of the game.
In the second half of play, Ryan Bowers scored a goal with 2:33 left in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 9-6. LEC started the fourth quarter with three consecutive goals to give them a commanding 12-6 lead with 10 minutes remaining in the contest.
Tampa returns to action tomorrow, as they take on Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio.
