No.6 Spartans Look To Bounce Back For Early Week Matchup
The University of Tampa men's lacrosse team will play host to the Chestnut Hill College Griffins on Tuesday night.
TAMPA, Fla. - The No.6 University of Tampa Spartans men's lacrosse team, will take on the Chestnut Hill College Griffins Tuesday, as they host the Griffins for an early week matchup at the Naimoli Family Athletic Complex.
The 3-1 Spartans will be looking to bounce back, after a long road trip and tough 25-7 loss to No.1 Limestone Saturday in Gaffney, S.C. The UT attack which averages 14.50 goals per game is led by Andrew Kew with 20 goals. Serving as the catalyst for the offense is Conor Whipple, who has tallied 13 goals and dished out a team-high 10 assists on the year.
The Tampa defense is highlighted by senior Marty Heyn, Luke Posner, Charlie Cummins and freshman A.J. Ferraro, who have combined for 30 groundballs and 10 caused turnovers.
In the net, the Spartans have played a rotation of keepers, but the goalies of record this far are T.J. Greenhill (1-1) and Bryan Karn (1-0). Greenhill has recorded six saves in 44.38 minutes of play and Karn has managed to record 21 saves in just 136.17 minutes of action.
At the faceoff x UT is represented by Tampa native Noah Menendez and Alex Patton, who have combined for a faceoff percentage of .559. Patton was recently named Sunshine State Conference Specialist Player of the Week for his efforts against the Adelphi Panthers and Walsh Cavaliers, where he won 20 of 23 faceoff attempts.
The Griffins enter the contest with a record of 0-1, after falling to Seton Hill (Pa.) in the first game of the year by a score of 16-8. Fueling the offense for the Griffins is George Markey with three goals. Leading the team in assists is Casey Brown with a lone assist. Brown also has a goal to his credit. Also making significant contributions on the offensive end is Andrew Dooley, who is the second highest scorer on the team with two goals.
The Chestnut defense is anchored down by Daniel DePasquale, who's forced three caused turnovers and hauled in two groundballs so far in the young season.
Netminder Thomas McDermott will look to stop a potent Tampa attack, carrying a record of 0-1, he will be looking to bounce back and add to his five saves. McDermott has posted a save percentage of .357 in 31.47 minutes of field time.
Representing the CHC at the faceoff x will be Brian Sinex and Timothy Vilardi, who have taken the majority of the faceoff a for the Griffins. The duo has combined for a faceoff percentage of .375.
