Whipple Earns USILA National Offensive Player Of The Week Honors
Junior Conor Whipple earns United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association National Offensive Player of the Week honors after, registering eight-goals against Lynn University
PERRY, N.Y. - The United State Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association announced it's men's Lacrosse National Player of the Week awards Wednesday afternoon via the association office. Representing the University of Tampa was Conor Whipple earning Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Athletes of the Week are chosen from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of March 14 - 20, 2016. Athletes are nominated by each player's respected conference office.
Whipple is awarded SSC Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season following his eight goals for the Spartans this week. In Tampa's only game, Whipple scored eight unassisted goals on 15 shots (11 on goal) and recorded one assist. Whipple also picked up two ground balls in the 15-10 conference victory over Lynn. His eight-goal performance tied a school record for most goals in a single game. The Tampa native accounted for 60% of Tampa's offense in the win, including a hat trick in the fourth period which sparked a 6-0 run to give UT the comeback victory on the road. Tampa owns an overall record of 7-1 and are 1-0 in SSC play.
This honor comes following Whipple's second Sunshine State Conference Offensive Player of the Week honor this season
Whipple is currently nationally-ranked fourth in Points per game (5.75) eighth in Goals per game (3.63), and seventh in Assists per game (2.38).
The University of Tampa men's lacrosse team returns to action this week as they face off against the Adams State Grizzlies on Friday at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Intramural Complex.
