No.6 Spartans Sink Tars In Slugfest En Route To Conference Championship
The No. 6 University of Tampa men's lacrosse team defeated the Rollins College Tars 11-9 Friday night, and claimed their third straight Sunshine State Conference Championship.
WINTER PARK, FLA. - The No. 6 University of Tampa men's lacrosse hit the road Friday night to take on the Rollins College Tars with the regular season Sunshine State Conference Championship on the line. The Spartans defeated the Tars 11-9 and clinched their third consecutive Sunshine State Conference title.
The Spartans' offense would dominate the shots department 36-25 and post a shots on goal percentage of 50.0. Leading the scoring efforts were Mike Morris with three goals in the matchup. Conor Whipple, Matt Bilak, Jake Schmidt each tallied two goals apiece. Freshmen Andrew Kew and Bo Garrison added some additional muscle to the attack recording one goal each.
Defensively Tampa outworked the Tars despite the rain-drenched conditions scooping up 28 ground balls to Rollins 16. UT would also force Setting the tone defensively was Charlie Cummins with two ground balls and three caused turnover.
A.J. Arnold picked up the win in net improving to 8-1 on the year. Arnold tallied seven saves in the game including several at key moments on top of posting a save percentage of 43.7.
Following the victory, UT Improves to 12-2 and 5-0 in conference play. The Spartans will receive the No. 1 seed and host the Sunshine State Conference Championship tournament.
