Spartans Send Seniors Out with Blowout Victory

TAMPA, Fla. – The third-ranked University of Tampa Spartans played a home game Saturday afternoon game as they faced the Emmanuel College Lions at Naimoli Stadium. 22 different Spartans would score in the game as they would cruise to a 25-4 victory. 11 seniors would be honored before the game.

All-time Series: Tampa has now won the only meeting between the programs.

How It Happened:

First Quarter: || UT would come out firing on all cylinders as they would net six goals in the first six minutes to go up 6-0. The Lions would respond with three goals of their own to pull within three. The Spartans would then go on to score the next five goals to end the half. || UT 11-3

Second Quarter: || Tampa would add on to the lead in the second quarter as they would add an additional four goals to extend their lead to 12 goals. Blake Ulmer would play in the second quarter between the pipes as he would get two saves on two attempted shots. || UT 15-3

Third Quarter: ||Emmanuel would score the first goal of the second half but the Spartans were able to respond with four straight goals to take a 15 goal lead. B.J. Borowski played the third quarter in goal for Tampa. || UT 19-4

Fourth Quarter: || In the final quarter of the game, Tampa would add an additional six goals to close out the game. The defense would also not allow a goal in the quarter, as Mike LaPoint would play the final quarter in goal. || UT 25-4

Inside the Stats:

  • Bryan Wright, Greg Santa-Anna, and Chris Sparks would each score two goals in the game.
  • Tampa would collect 42 groundballs, while Emmanuel had 17.
  • The Spartans would win 27-32 faceoffs. Ross Dickerson would win 11 of 12 attempts and picked up 10 groundballs. 
  • UT would also outshoot EC 43-13.
