No. 11 Tampa Drops SSC Series Opener at No. 6 Rollins
WINTER PARK, Fla. - The No. 11 University of Tampa (16-6, 4-3 SSC) softball team suffered a 2-0 loss against No. 6 Rollins College (29-2, 6-1 SSC) at Lake Island Park on Friday.
Junior Kayla Cox started in the circle for the Spartans and was dealt her third loss of the season. She tossed a complete 6.0 innings with eight strikeouts and allowing two runs on four hits.
The Tars took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second on a sacrifice fly by Tara Turner that scored Hannah Lovestrand.
Turner homered with two outs in the bottom of the fourth to extend the Rollins lead to 2-0.
Tampa stranded six runners in the game after being held scoreless by the Tars starter Niki Fogle. Kandi Kuder led all Spartans with three base hits on the evening. Meagan Burke and Brie Walton also contributed with a base hit apiece.
UT will return to action Saturday afternoon for a doubleheader at Rollins to conclude the SSC series. The first game is scheduled for 1 p.m. Live stats will be available through www.tampaspartans.com.
