No. 7 Tampa Set for Weekend Series Against Barry
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 7 University of Tampa (18-6, 6-3 SSC) softball team is set to take on Sunshine State Conference opponent Barry University (19-10, 7-2 SSC) for a weekend series.
The series will open with a doubleheader Saturday evening at the Naimoli Family Field beginning at 5 p.m., with the final game starting at 10 a.m., on Sunday.
The all-time record for the Spartans against the Buccaneers is 28-55. They last met in the Eckerd Tournament on February 10, and the Spartans were victorious by a score of 1-0 in Clearwater, Fla.
UT's pitching has been stellar with Kayla Cox leading the way. Cox is now 13-3 on the year with a 0.41 ERA. She has amassed 195 strikeouts in 109.1 innings while hurling five no-hitters, including a perfect game. Julia Morrow has followed suit with a 5-3 record and 3.11 ERA.
The offense will look for continued production from the top of their lineup. Meagan Burke and Kayleen Boatwright are both hitting over .300. Boatwright has a team-leading 16 RBI, while Burke has three home runs. Stacy Piagno shares the team lead in RBI, while hitting .296 on the year.
Barry enters the matchup led by Julie Brito and Alexis Yohe. Brito is hitting .409 on the season with 22 RBI, while Yohe sports a 9-5 record with 78 strikeouts and a 1.99 ERA.
