No. 10 Tampa Battles to Victory Over Florida Southern
The No. 10 University of Tampa (20-4, 10-3 SSC) softball team
claimed a 1-0 victory over Florida Southern College (18-9, 4-3 SSC)
at Barnett Field on Friday evening.
Senior Kayla Cox started for the Spartans and earned her tenth
victory of the season. She tossed 5.0 innings with five strikeouts
while allowing one hit. Julia Morrow pitched the final 2.0 innings
with four strikeouts while allowing two hits to record her third
save of the year.
Both teams were held scoreless by dominant pitching from Cox and
Moccasins starter Chelsea Oglevie for the first two innings.
Meagan Burke put Tampa on the board in the top of the third on a
two out RBI triple to right field. Kandi Kuder came around to
score and give the Spartans a 1-0 lead.
Florida Southern was unable to even the score as Tampa held on to
preserve the shutout victory.
Kayleen Boatwright and Bre Setree also contributed for the Spartans
with a base hit each to total three in the game.
UT will return to action Saturday afternoon for a doubleheader at
Florida Southern to conclude the SSC series. The first game is
scheduled for 1 p.m. Live stats will be available through
