Pitching Leads Tampa to Two Morrow Wins
The No. 10 University of Tampa (22-4, 12-3 SSC) softball team
swept a pair of games against Florida Southern College (18-11, 4-5
SSC) in a doubleheader at Barnett Field on Saturday by final scores
of 2-0 and 8-1 respectively.

Julia Morrow started game one and hurled a complete game shutout to
earn her 11th victory of the season. She tossed 7.0 innings with 12
strikeouts while surrendering no runs on one hit.
The Spartans jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first.
Kandi Kuder singled to start the rally followed by a walk to Meagan
Burke that set the stage. Bree Setree delivered an RBI single to
right field that put Tampa ahead 1-0.
In the top of the fifth Burke roped a homerun that easily cleared
the left field fence to give Tampa a 2-0 advantage.
The Moccasins put together a threat in the bottom of the seventh
but were unable to score following two walks as the Spartans held
on for the victory.
Kayla Cox started the second game where she went 5.1 innings with
four strikeouts and allowing one run on six hits. Morrow entered
the game and pitched the final 1.2 innings with four strikeouts to
notch her 12th win of the season.
Tampa opened the scoring in the top of the second on an RBI single
by Kayleen Boatwright. Jenna Halper came around to score and give
the Spartans a 1-0 lead.
The Moccasins tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on a pinch
hit RBI single by Christie Bailey. Priscilla Gonzalez came around
to score and even the game at 1-1.
Lindsay Dring put the Spartans back on top in the seventh on a two
RBI triple down the right field line that plated Kuder and Burke.
Alyssa Colletti added a two out RBI single to score Dring followed
by a pinch hit two RBI double by Megin Eskew. Boatwright and Kuder
each added an RBI single to conclude the inning as Tampa took an
8-1 lead.
Morrow and the Spartan defense retired the Mocs in order to close
out the seventh for the win.
Tampa will return to action Tuesday in Clermont to take on
Northwestern, Ohio at 1 p.m. followed by a 3 p.m. matchup against
Concordia, Mich. Live stats will be available at
