Kayla Cox Earns Second Straight South Region Pitcher of the Year Award

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The University of Tampa was represented by four student-athletes on the 2014 Daktronics Division II All-South Region Team. Kayla Cox also repeated as the South Region Pitcher of the Year.

Valdosta State's Courtney Albritton was named South Region Player of the Year.

Five SSC players were named to the All-South Region First Team including 3B Hilary Brown (Rollins), OF Kristie Hoeffer (Rollins), UT/P Erika Garcia (Nova Southeastern), P Kayla Cox (Tampa), P Julia Morrow (Tampa) and P Niki Fogle (Rollins).

Three conference players were named to the All-South Region Second Team, including 1B Meagan Burke (Tampa), OF Courtney Durbin (Rollins) and DP Lindsay Dring (Tampa).

Cox was also named SSC Pitcher of the Year and an All-SSC First Team selection a week ago. The senior posted a 16-3 overall record and an 11-2 conference record during the regular season.

Garcia was named SSC Player of the Year as well as an All-SSC First Team selection. The senior was a dual threat from the mound and the plate. She led the conference with 16 doubles and ranked second with 48 RBis. From the mound she recorded a 2.11 ERA with 10 wins.

Brown, Burke, Dring, Durbin, Hoeffer and Morrow were all named to the All-SSC First Team, while Fogle was named to the conference's second team.
