Walton Sets Block Record as #25 Tampa Falls
TAMPA, Fla. - The 25th-ranked University of Tampa women's basketball team suffered a 66-60 loss in a rematch with the University of West Georgia. The Spartans drop to 7-2 as the Wolves are now 8-1 as their lone loss was a 57-54 setback against the Spartans earlier in the season.
West Georgia held the lead for the majority of the contest, though UT came back to tie the game at 32-32 with 19:18 remaining in the game. West Georgia responded with a 4-0 run and extended a double figure lead with 11:45 remaining. UT was not able to get within two possessions as UWG held on for the victory in the rematch.
Sheena Walton set the UT career record for blocked shots as she recorded three on the evening. She now stands at 301 as the lone Spartan to register over 300 career blocks. Walton also recorded 14 points and a team high 10 rebounds.
Alexa Kane led all Spartans with 15 points, 10 in the second half. Kane also led Tampa with five assists while Erica Woodard added 11 points.
Tampa returns to action on Sunday, December 16, as it hosts West Florida at 2 p.m.
