Tampa Records 20th Victory for Third Straight Season
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The University of Tampa women's basketball team secured its third straight 20-plus victory season as it defeated Palm Beach Atlantic by a score of 73-42. While becoming the first team in program history to have three consecutive seasons with at least 20 victories, the Spartans are now 20-5 while dropping the Sailfish to 1-27.
While never trailing in the 40 minute affair, the Spartans quickly extended their lead and stretched a 15 point halftime lead to a 31 point romp.
Sheena Walton led the way with 19 points and 11 rebounds while recording her 11th double-double of the season. The nation's leader in blocked shots also registered four blocks while connecting on 8-12 shots from the field and 3-3 from the free throw line.
After coming off the bench in 16 games this season, Brittany Ridley earned the start at point guard and responded with 11 points in her second consecutive double figure scoring effort. Erica Woodard also scored in double figures with 10 points.
The inside duo of Walton and Woodard proved to be too much for PBA as the Spartans won the battle in the paint by a 38-12 margin. UT also had 16 second chance points while allowing none for the Sailfish.
Tampa resumes Sunshine State Conference play with a Wednesday night meeting with Florida Southern in Lakeland. The game will tip-off at 5:30 p.m.
