
Tampa Drops SSC Road Opener To Rollins
WINTER PARK, Fla. – The University of Tampa Spartans traveled to Winter Park to take on the Rollins College Tars. The Tars used a strong second quarter to claim a 68-64 victory. Tampa now falls to 1-3 on the season and 0-2 in SSC play. Rollins improves to 2-1 and 1-0 in the Sunshine State Conference.
Juliana Cavallaro led the way for UT as she scored 23 points and picked up nine rebounds. The senior shot 6-9 from beyond the arc. Jenny Horvatinovic contributed with 14 points while Elena de Alfredo added 11 points. Contributing off the bench was Karma Jeremie, who picked up 10 points in the game.
The two teams played an even first quarter as Tampa held a 12-11 lead after the first 10 minutes of play. De Alfredo and Jeremie led the way in the first quarter as they each had four points.
The Tars started the second quarter with a 17-0 run before Cavallaro hit a layup with 1:40 left to play in the half. The Tars outscored the Spartans 22-4 in the quarter to take a 33-16 lead going into the break.
The Spartans outscored the Tars in the third quarter 30-18, as they shot 81.8% (9-11) as a team and a perfect 5-5 from beyond the arc to pull within five at 51-46. Cavallaro led the charge as the senior went 3-3 from three.
The two teams would trade baskets in the fourth quarter, as Rollins would lead by as many as 12 points with 4:09 to play in the game. Tampa would pull within six points with 1:13 left after Cavallaro knocked down her sixth three-pointer of the game. Tampa was unable to complete the comeback as Rollins claimed the 68-64 victory.
Tampa will be in action again on November 24 when they host Embry-Riddle at 5:30 in the Martinez Center.
