Spartans Unable To Contain Tritons
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd College Tritons used a strong shooting performance to claim a 66-38 victory over the University of Tampa Spartans. The Spartans now fall to 3-5 overall and 0-3 in the SSC, while the Tritons now sit at 5-2, and 3-1 in conference play.
Taylor McVey lead the way for Tampa, as the senior center was the lone Spartan in double-figures with 10 points on the afternoon. Candace Martino lead UT with six rebounds.
After ending the first quarter down 17-11, the Spartans were able to pull within one point in the second quarter, as they cut the Eckerd lead to 21-20. With 3:25 left in the half, the Tritons would go on a 13-1 run to end the half with a 34-21 lead.
Eckerd held the advantage in shooting for the half as the Tritons shot 44.8 percent (13-29), while Tampa shot 32 percent (8-25). EC also knocked down six three-point field goals, while UT only connected on two.
The Tritons continued their strong shooting performance in the second half, as they shot 48.1 percent (13-27) as a team from the field. In total, the Tritons knocked down 10 three-pointers in the afternoon.
