Eagles Take Close Regional Match Against Spartans 57-49
Despite three players scoring in double figures, Embry-Riddle took home the regional win
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa women's basketball team dropped a close regional match to the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Eagles 57-49 on Saturday afternoon. The Spartans led for most of the match but the Eagles offense was too much in the fourth quarter for Tampa.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
1st Quarter | The game started out with both teams trading baskets as they settled into the game and were tied 4-4. UT would go on a 9-1 run to open a eight point lead at 13-5 but the Eagles closed out the quarter strong and the teams were tied 17-17 after 10 minutes of play. UT was led by Morgan Lumb, who contributed nine points.
2nd Quarter | In the second quarter, the defense for the home team was able to hold the visiting side scoreless for nearly seven minutes to start the period. However, Tampa was unable to take advantage to build a lead as just like the first quarter, ERAU went on a run to end the half and was able to close the gap to just three points as UT led 26-23 at the break with Lumb maintaing to lead the team with 11 points and three rebounds.
3rd Quarter | The Eagles came out with the momentum they had built to end the first half and were able to make two quick baskets to take a 27-26 lead two minutes into the quarter. The Spartans were able to respond and go on a run of their own but ERAU was able to withstand the effort and outscored Tampa 15-10 in the quarter to take a slim 38-36 lead into the final 10 minutes of play.
4th Quarter | Karma Jeremie scored the first basket of the fourth quarter to tie the game at 38 a piece. However, the Eagles went on a 7-0 run to take a lead that would end up being enough as the Spartans had to play from behind the rest of the way. With just under a minute to go in the game, UT cut the deficit to just four points but were unable to complete the comeback as the visitors made their free throws and the time ran out on Tampa.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- The Eagles led for just under 13 minutes while the Spartans had the advantage for just over 20 minutes and the game was tied for just under seven minutes.
- UT shot 36% from the field compared to 44% by ERAU.
- Lumb recorded 15 points to lead the team as she shot 7-12 from the field. Jeremie was second in scoring with 13 points while deAlfredo tallied 10 points.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Lumb has now scored in double digits for five straight games and has six overall.
- Jeremie has scored in double digits in all but one game this season and now has one block in each of the last two games.
- As a team, the Spartans have now recorded over 25 rebounds in every game this season.
