HOW IT HAPPENED:
In a matchup between Tampa and Texas A&M - Kingsville on November 5, 2023, Tampa emerged victorious with a final score of 60-58. The game took place in Billings, Montana as the second of three tournament games over this weekend.
The matchup opened with the Spartans netting seven unanswered points, causing the Javelinas to call a timeout. Texas A&M – Kingsville started to find some offensive momentum halfway through the first quarter, testing the Tampa defense. Early in the second quarter, the Javelinas cut the Spartans' lead to two points. Heading into halftime the teams were neck and neck, with the Spartans earning a narrow two-point lead.
In the third quarter, the teams continued to trade possession and points. Halfway through the quarter, the Javelinas called another timeout after the Spartans gained some momentum to build a seven-point lead. With just over one minute left in the quarter, Texas A&M – Kingsville cut the Tampa lead down to six.
To begin the final 10 minutes, Tampa's Sarah Jones netted a three-point shot to build the lead to 11 points. The Javelinas made a late offensive push in the fourth quarter, cutting the Spartans' lead down to two points with three minutes left to play. With just under two minutes, the Javelinas tied the matchup at 58. Ultimately, Tampa would net quick points after the tying play to earn the win.
