Spartans Welcome Panthers for Senior Day Showdown
The UT women's lacrosse team will host Florida Tech on Saturday after a pregame ceremony honoring the Spartan seniors.
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa women's lacrosse team will welcome Florida Tech for a Saturday Sunshine State Conference showdown slated for a 7:30 p.m. start at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Intramural Complex. Prior to the game, the Spartans will honor the accomplishments of three student-athletes that will graduate at the season's end.
UT enters the senior day contest with a 3-8 overall record and a 0-3 tally in SSC action while the visiting Panthers have an 8-4 record and a 0-0 mark in conference play.
Tampa dropped its most recent matchup to No. 8 Florida Southern by an 18-7 final score. Junior Emilie Barbosa notched two goals for UT while freshman Rachel Crawford added a goal and an assist in the outing. Senior Caili Guilday recorded nine saves in the net while scooping up seven ground balls to lead the team. Sophomore Amanda Rom was strong on the draw, notching seven draw controls for the Spartans.
Junior Amanda Voges is the leading-scorer for Tampa, netting 21 goals while also leading in total points with 26. Following Voges are sophomores Rom and Natalie Carraway, as both attackers have 17 points this season. Defensively, a corps of defenders led by senior captain Amanda Parker leads the Spartans. Parker has 14 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers while freshman duo Liz Kramer and Abby Coccagna have combined for 32 ground balls and 24 caused turnovers under the guidance and leadership of the senior.
Senior Guilday leads in the net for UT, posting a 3-8 record with 99 saves and 39 ground balls.
Florida Tech is coming off a two-game skid, dropping a pair of road matchups to then-No. 3 Lindenwood and McKendree. Sara Grenier leads the Panthers offensively, as the attacker has 32 goals and eight assists this season. Caroline Dunleavy and Allie Modica each have 28 goals on the year to provide compliments to Grenier.
In the last and only meeting between the two squads, Florida Tech took a 20-10 win over the Spartans last season.
