Tampa Concludes Successful FIRA Championships With Several Top Finishes
SARASOTA, Fla. - The Florida Intercollegiate Rowing Association (FIRA) Championships finished with the University of Tampa winning a total of three races against top competition.
The Women's F/N Lightweight 4+ finished first with a time of 8:32.3. The Spartans also defeated Georgia Tech, Florida and Florida State.
In the Women's 2X, UT was first after being clocked at 8:02.2. They outpaced second-place Nova Southeastern by over 24 seconds. Also competing were three teams from Stetson and Embry-Riddle.
Tampa also won the 1X with a time of 8:36.2. The victory was by nearly 50-seconds over second-place Stetson. Georgia Tech also competed in the race.
The Spartans Women's JV 4+ also raced to a third-place effort with a time of 7:44.4. Nova Southeastern won, with Florida Tech placing second. Florida, Jacksonville, Stetson and Florida State trailed the three Sunshine State Conference boats.
UT was also fifth in the Women's F/N 4+ Final, with a time of 8:16.8. Jacksonville finished first in the race. The Spartans were also eighth in the Women's Varsity 4+ with a time of 8:10.2.
The Spartans will return to action on April 19-20 at the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association (SIRA) Championships in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
