Tampa Concludes 2014 SSC Championships

SARASOTA, Fla. - The University of Tampa raced to a fifth-place showing at the 2014 Sunshine State Conference Rowing Championships, which was hosted by Florida Tech at Benderson Park.

Nova Southeastern captured the SSC title, scoring a total of 20 points after winning both the varsity 4 and 8 events. Barry (13) was the runner-up, followed by Florida Tech (9), Rollins (6) and UT (2).

Tampa opened competition with a fourth-place finish in the Varsity 4+ race, with a time of 8:01.2. The Spartans also raced in the 8+, finishing fifth with an effort of 8:59.2.

Taylor DeMesa was named to the all-SSC team, as Alexandra Ferrer earned a spot on the all-freshman/novice team.

The Spartans return to action on May 9-10 at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia.
