#7 Tampa Scores Five Late Goals In Victory

Lakeland, Fla. - The seventh-ranked University of Tampa women's soccer team picked up a victory in the Sunshine State Conference opener, topping Florida Southern by a score of 6-1. The win improves the Spartans to 5-1 on the season have now stayed unbeaten in 10 consecutive SSC games dating back to the 2004 season.
Shelby Kuni had two goals and one assist for Tampa, who registered five goals in the final 20 minutes of the game after the two teams were deadlocked 1-1 at halftime. Kuni set up the Spartans' first goal by combining with defender Nicole Murphy to assist Samantha Robinson at the 16:41 mark. It was one of two assists for Murphy, who also led a Tampa defense that surrendered only three shots.
With a 1-1 score, Tampa's Jocelyn Charette struck with a shot from close range in the 71st minute, before Kuni added back-to-back goals, one of them assisted by Murphy. Emily Stack made it four goals in the span of five minutes when Charette fed her the ball in the box, and the Spartans were up 5-1. Shannon Agnew scored the final Tampa goal with 1:25 remaining, coming on the last of 26 Tampa shots.
The Spartans next game will be on Tuesday, September 19, at Saint Leo. The matchup between arguably the top teams in the SSC will kick-off at 7:00 pm. Tampa's next home game is scheduled for Friday, September 22, against Flagler in a 7:00 pm game that marks the first home game for the Spartans in six games.
