Tampa, Fla. - The University of Tampa capitalized on two first half goals by leading scorer Shelby Kuni to defeat visiting Nova Southeastern by a score of 2-0. The victory improves the third-ranked Spartans to 10-1 on the season and 4-0 in the Sunshine State Conference. While winning 10 of its first 11 matches, Tampa has set the school record for its best start in program history and extended its homefield unbeaten streak to 27 matches.
Kuni scored her first goal, which was unassisted, at the 4:35 mark off a goalkeeper deflection. Kuni added her second goal of the match, which was her 15th of the season, at the 16:17 mark off a Jocelyn Charette assist.
Shannon Aitken recorded her second consecutive shutout in goal for the Spartans, stopping one shot. The reigning SSC Defensive Player of the Week earned her fifth shutout of the season and 20th of her career, which is a school record.
The Spartans are back in action on Saturday as they host Palm Beach Atlantic at 6:00 pm at Pepin Stadium.
