Spartans Stomp Eckerd To Celebrate Senior Day as Kuni Ties Record

Tampa, Fla. - The eighth-ranked University of Tampa women's soccer team scored a school record seven first-half goals on it way to an offensive laden victory over Eckerd in a Sunshine State Conference matchup. Tampa's 8-0 victory improves them to 14-2 on the season and 7-1 to conclude SSC play as the league's regular season champion.
Shelby Kuni scored three first-half goals to put her in a tie with Tai Kirklin for most goals in a season. Kuni now has 21 goals this year, most since Kirklin accomplished the feat in 2000. A total of six Spartans scored a goal, including senior Samantha Robinson.
Maria Mohammed added a goal off the bench as freshman Jocelyn Charette, Alison Penland and Courtney Evans all added a goal as well. Robinson also tallied three assists, all of which occurred in the first half. Senior Kara Rasmussen also added an assist as Marissa Mohammed was credited with two while teammates Nicole Murphy, Katie Callahan, Charette and Penland each had one assist.
Seniors Sarah Sheehan and Malana Winskas also started, as Winskas recorded two shots and Sheehan one. Senior goalkeeper Laurenleigh Guagliardo started in goal and combined with Shannon Aitken to shut out the Tritons. Aitken was credited with the team's lone two saves.
With the regular season complete, Tampa will focus on the SSC Tournament where it has received a first-round bye. The Spartans will host the tourney, which will consist of a pair of matches on Friday, October 27 followed by a championship game on Sunday October 29. The opponent has yet to be determined.
