Record Number of Spartans Named to All-South Team
Tampa, Fla. - The University of Tampa women's soccer team placed a record seven players to the DAKTRONICS All-South Region team, as announced by the group that was conducted by the Sports Information Directors at South Region Institutions. Shelby Kuni led the list as the DAKTRONICS South Region Player of the Year as she was joined by teammates Shannon Aitken, Kara Rasmussen and Malana Winskas on the first team.
The second team also included three Spartans, including Jocelyn Charette, Nicole Murphy and Samantha Robinson. Tampa, which had a school record four selections last season, won the NCAA South Regional and will play Thursday against Grand Valley State in the NCAA Final Four at the Fall Festival in Pensacola.
Kuni, who has started all 21 matches this season for Tampa, owns a school and Sunshine State Conference record with 26 goals. The sophomore from Houston, Texas, also has six assists and a team-leading 58 points this season. Among her top performances have been three hat tricks and seven multi-goal performances. She has also registered a goal in four consecutive matches, three of which have been NCAA tournament games.
