PENSACOLA, Fla. - The defending national champion University of Tampa women's soccer team fell to the University of West Florida in the semifinals of the 2008 NCAA Division II South Regional. UT ends its season with a 13-7-2 record as the second-ranked Argonauts advance with a 21-0-1 mark.
The Spartans played even for the majority of the contest as UWF outshot UT by a 17-8 mark. The shots on goal were significantly closer, with West Florida taking a 7-6 edge.
Freshman Kendall Bourdon played in goal for Tampa, gaining valuable postseason experience. She finished with five saves while facing 17 shots. Brittan Spence led the Tampa offense with four shots, including three on goal.
The Spartans now focus on the 2009 season with a young group of returners slated to lead the squad. A total of five true freshman started for head coach Gerry Lucey's squad in Sunday's game.
