Spartans Take Home Opener In Decisive Fashion
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa (3-0) benefited from an excellent offensive showing as it defeated Warner University (1-2) by a 7-1 score in its home opener.
After taking a 2-0 lead to the half, the Spartans scored five goals within a 15 minute period to run away from the Royals. A late Warner goal was added in the 71st minute.
Jazmin Perry scored a career-high four goals as freshman Andrea Arnone's first collegiate goal went down as the game winner at the 13:59 mark.
Luana Miessa added two goals and an assist while Courtney Peffley tallied three assists. Alyson Gregorowicz had two helpers while Megan Lawrence also added an assist.
Leah Cesanek started in goal and improved to 3-0 on the season. Tampa outshot Warner by a 34-2 mark as 17 Spartan shots were on goal.
"We began to click tonight offensively," says head coach Gerry Lucey. "It was good to see the ball moving quickly and our team fighting hard to win possessions back. Overall, it was a good night's work and we will be back tomorrow at practice trying to improve."
The Spartans return to the pitch on Sunday as it hosts Queens (N.Y.) College in a 12 noon meeting at Pepin Stadium. UT will offer a webcast and live stats for the event.
