Nova Southeastern Snaps Tampa’s Home Winning Streak
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa (7-4, 2-3 SSC) was defeated by a 1-0 score against Nova Southeastern (6-3-1, 3-0-1 SSC) in the Sunshine State Conference match up at Pepin Stadium Friday night. The Sharks broke Tampa's home winning streak giving UT their first loss on home turf.
The game remained scoreless going into half-time with impressive defensive performances by both contenders. In the second half, tensions flared as both UT's Brittan Spence and NSU's Alexis Hernandez each received yellow cards in the 47th minute.
As a sense of urgency gathered, the Shark's were able to get the ball in scoring range before a foul was called in the goal box giving NSU a penalty kick in the 50th minute. Hernandez's free shot would account for the only goal of the game.
Freshman Leah Cesanek started in goal for Tampa, finishing the game with four saves. Nova Southeastern was credited with nine shots, four on goal as the Spartan's racked up three and none on goal.
