
Tampa Picks Up Double Overtime Victory To Even Conference Record
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa (8-4, 3-3 SSC) women's soccer team came out on top in a 2-1 double overtime decision versus Florida Tech (6-4, 3-1 SSC) in Sunshine State Conference action from Pepin Stadium.
The Spartans controlled the tempo for the majority of the first half, with the lone goal coming on a perfectly played header by Luana Miessa for her team-leading sixth goal of the season. Courtney Peffley also tallied her seventh assist of the year on the play, which also leads all Spartans.
Tampa's defense allowed zero Florida Tech shots in the opening half as UT was credited with four shots, including three on goal.
Florida Tech forced an extra period as Christine Ragona scored in the 82nd minute from teammate Sara Lewis.
Following a scoreless first overtime period, UT freshman Carolyn Simon scored the game-winner from classmate Andrea Arnone. The final goal came at 103:56 as Simon took the pass in the box in front of the Panther goal and buried the winning shot in the top left corner of the net.
Leah Cesanek started in goal for UT, moving her record to 8-4 on the year while recording three saves. Tampa outshot the Panthers 17-9 while owning an 8-4 edge in shots on goal.
Tampa returns to action on Friday for Homecoming as it hosts Palm Beach Atlantic University at 8 p.m. The game will be the second in a doubleheader with the men's team. Live stats and a webcast will be available through www.tampaspartans.com.
