Spartans Earn Return To National Rankings
KANSAS CITY, Kans. - Riding a four-match winning streak, the University of Tampa women's soccer team now appears in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division II top-25 as the No. 24 team in the country.
At 10-4-2, UT is unbeaten in its last five contests with one regular season match remaining. The Spartans will host No. 6 St. Leo University on Thursday with the Sunshine State Conference tournament to follow. Tampa is currently third in the SSC with a 4-2-1 league showing.
Tampa women's soccer is no stranger to the national rankings, appearing at No. 14 in the preseason installment. The Spartans have been represented in the national rankings for a string of nine consecutive seasons, dating back to 2003.
UT is also represented heavily in the NCAA individual and team leaderboard as freshman Gabby Russo is the only freshman in the nation to rank in the top-20 in assists. With 11 assists, she is seventh in total assists and ninth in assists per game. Goalkeeper Emelie Karstrom is also 22nd with a 0.58 GAA.
As a team, the Spartans rank 16th in scoring offense while averaging 2.63 goals per game. The Spartans are also 31st in GAA at 0.667.
Tampa's match with St. Leo is slated for Thursday at 7 p.m., at Pepin Stadium.
