UT Women Set To Host Lynn In SSC Quarterfinal
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa (10-5-2, 4-3-1 SSC) women's soccer team takes the field at Pepin Stadium for a Tuesday evening match at 7:00 p.m., against the Lynn University Fighting Knights (9-5-1, 4-4 SSC). This will be the Sunshine State Conference quarterfinal.
Tampa is 9-5-1 all-time against Lynn, falling 1-0 to the Knights at home this season. The Spartans have won eight of the last 11 games over the Lions.
Jazmin Perry, a senior forward, leads all Spartans in scoring with nine goals and 17 shots on goal, including three game winners. Other notable scorers this season are: freshman Jenny Karl with six goals, senior Brittan Spence with five goals and freshman Lauren Moore with five goals.
UT freshman goaltender Emelie Karstrom leads the team with six shutouts. UT has allowed one-or-less-goals in nine games this season.
UT has outscored its opponents 42-12 this season. UT has won four of its last five games and most recently lost to No. 6 Saint Leo 1-0 last Thursday. However, UT outshot St. Leo in the game 11-7.
Lynn has outshot its opponents 216-201 this season. Senior forward Melissa Ortiz leads all Knights in scoring with eight goals, four assists and 30 shots on goal. Another bright spot for the Knights is freshman forward Jackie Hellett. Forsman has scored four goals and three assists.
Ortiz has provided the Knights with four game winners. Freshman goaltender Meghan Dolan has allowed only eight goals in nine starts, posting a 0.81 GAA. Lynn has won three of its last five games.
The winner of the contest will play at top-seeded Saint Leo Friday, Nov. 4, at a time to be determined.
