SSC Tournament Champions Earn Listing in National Rankings
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Fresh off its second straight Sunshine State Conference tournament title, the University of Tampa women's soccer team now appears in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division II top-25 as the No. 19 team in the country.
At 13-5-2, UT has won three consecutive matches while outscoring its opponents by a 7-2 tally in the SSC tourney. After finishing the regular season with a 4-3-1 league showing, the Spartans are now unbeaten in eight of its last nine contests.
Tampa women's soccer is no stranger to the national rankings, appearing at No. 14 in the preseason installment and was also No. 24 two weeks ago. The Spartans have been represented in the national rankings for a string of nine consecutive seasons, dating back to 2003.
Fellow NCAA South Region participants Saint Leo (6) and Rollins (11) also appear in the rankings while another, Florida Tech, is listed as receiving votes.
The Spartans open play at the 2011 NCAA South Regional as it faces the University of North Alabama on Friday at 5 p.m. The match will be played in Winter Park, Fla., on the campus of host Rollins College.
