No. 5 Tampa Prevails in Overtime at Barry

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - The No. 5 University of Tampa (6-0) women's soccer team stayed perfect with a 3-2 overtime victory at Barry University (4-1) on Wednesday.

The Buccaneers struck first, scoring just over three minutes into the game as it marked the first goal against the Spartans in 2013. Lauren Manna was credited with the unassisted score.

Barry would hold the lead until the second half, when UT connected on a pair of goals to grab a 2-1 lead. Cici Gonzalez netted the first Spartan goal in the 57th minute as Jess Frank assisted. The next Tampa goal came via Gabby Russo in the 71st minute as the assist went to freshman Emily Jones.

With just under eight minutes in regulation, Barry scored the equalizer off the foot of Dominique Richardson with the assist credited to Manna. The game would remain tied heading to overtime.

Playing in its first overtime game of the season, Tampa needed just 2:40 in the extra period before ending the game on a game-winner from Jenny Karl. The goal came on a rebound from Gonzalez.

Alyson Gregorowicz started her first career game and came away with five saves in her first collegiate goalkeeping experience. Barry held a 13-10 edge in shots while holding a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal. Both teams took three corner kicks.

The Spartans return home to host Nova Southeastern University on Saturday at 5 p.m., in their second straight non-conference contest versus a Sunshine State Conference opponent. Live stats and a webcast will be available through TampaSpartans.tv.
