
No. 18 Tampa Outduels Webber International

The No. 18 University of Tampa (2-0) women's soccer team defeated Webber International (0-2) on Saturday night by a score of 2-1 at Pepin Stadium.
The Spartans dominated the first half while firing 24 shots with 16 coming on goal. Cici Gonzalez led the team with eight shots in the period as Lauren Moore also contributed with six.
Goalkeeper Carolyn Frykgard saw little action as the Tampa defense held Webber International without a shot in the half.
Chelsea Martin opened the scoring in the 53rd minute. Gabby Russo and Kaley Ward were each credited with an assist on the goal.
Gonzalez added to the Spartan lead with a goal in the 63rd minute to give the junior four on the season.
Philippa Wilson cut the Warriors deficit to 2-1 in the 69th minute off a cross from Laura Borders.
Webber was unable to mount a comeback as the UT defense held strong for the final 20 minutes.
Amber Pennybaker also contributed for the Spartans with six shots in the match while Candice Shields and Madison Cox tallied two each.
