No. 15 Tampa Plays to Draw with Tusculum

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla.- The No. 15 University of Tampa (3-0-1) women's soccer team dueled Tusculum College (1-1-1) to a 0-0 (2 OT) draw on Friday night at Saints Field.

"We played a tough physical opponent tonight and matched that part of the game" says head coach Gerry Lucey. "We showed a lot of endeavor in the game and just lacked the quality to finish off the game. We created numerous chances throughout and completely dominated the OT. With a bit more thought and composure we should have scored a few."

The Spartans dominated the first half while outshooting the Pioneers 14-3. Tusculum goalkeeper Marissa Williams saved eight shots in the period to hold the Tampa offense scoreless.

UT held a 10-7 advantage in the second period with three shots coming on goal. The Spartans continued to dominate time of possession in overtime while holding the Pioneers to one shot in the final 20 minutes of the match.

Goalkeeper Caroline Frykgard played all 110 minutes and notched eight saves for Tampa to record her third shutout of the season.

Chelsea Martin and Audrey Hayward led all Spartans with five shots each in the game. Martin placed three shots on target to lead the team as Hayward struck two shots on goal of her own.

Cici Gonzalez and Amber Pennybaker also contributed to the UT attack with four shots apiece. Tampa completed the match with a massive 31-11 advantage in shots while holding a slight edge in corner kicks 5-4.

Despite a dominant offensive performance the Spartans were unable to net a goal after 110 minutes of play.

"We will make some adjustments in our game and hopefully get a better result on Sunday" says Lucey.
