Beate Jaeckel Named Academic All-American
AUSTIN, Texas - University of Tampa women's soccer player Beate Jäeckel was named a member of the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America® Division II Women's soccer teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Jäeckel, a junior from Munich, Germany, owns a nearly perfect 3.99 GPA while majoring in international business. The defender is coming off a 2014 season where she played in 18 matches, starting 13. She registered one goal and an assist. In three seasons as a Spartan, she has played in 57 games and has tallied a goal to go with five assists.
She becomes the second Academic All-American in program history, joining Courtney Peffley (2012).
The Capital One Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2014-15 Division II Academic All-America® teams program.
Nineteen of the 33 members of the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America® NCAA Division II women's soccer teams have at least a 3.90 G.P.A., with eight student-athletes maintaining a perfect 4.00 G.P.A. The 11 members of the first team have an average G.P.A. of 3.92.
Cassie Callahan of the University of California, San Diego is now a three-time Capital One Academic All-American®. After earning third team honors the last two years she moves up to the first team this year. A mathematics major with a 3.88 G.P.A. from Coronado, California, the senior midfielder first team All-California Collegiate Athletic Association honors for the third straight year. In 2011 she was selected the CCAA Freshman of the Year. Callahan led the Tritons to a 9-6-3 record, finishing with four goals and three assists for 11 points.
Gannon's Mani Brueckner is also a repeat Capital One Academic All-American®. The junior forward was a second team choice last year and was voted to the third team this year. She has a 3.74 G.P.A. as an engineering major and is a native of Valencia, Pa. She was named to the first team All-PSAC team for the third consecutive season. She led the Lady Knights in assists (9) and points (25). The three-year starter holds the Gannon career record for assist (32) while ranking third in career goals (27) and career points (86).

The Capital One Academic All-America® second team includes Molly McGough and Korey Kronforst of Minnesota State, Bellarmine University's Taylor Gamm, Adelphi University's Taylor Groth, Tabea Rauschenberger of the University of Bridgeport, Jourdan Thompson and Carmelina Puopolo of the College of Saint Rose, Harding University's Audrey Adkison, Grand Valley State University's Marti Corby, Haley Henderson of California (Pa.), and Columbus State (Ga.) University's Kelsey Pelletier.
The Capital One Academic All-America® third team features Grand Valley State's Andrea Strauss, Anna Frank of Missouri Science & Technology, Caldwell University's Lauren Iuliucci, University of Tampa's Beate Jaeckel, Claire Mathews of Point Loma Nazarene University, Florida Southern College's Jackie Metz, Heather Williams of Cal State Los Angeles, Pace University's Alyssa Zeoli, Felician College's Macki Groves, and Slippery Rock University's Nicole Krueger.
