Tampa, Barry Set To Meet In NCAA South Regional Final
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn - The field is set for the Sweet 16 and the Tampa Spartans are slated to battle the Barry Buccaneers Friday afternoon on the campus of Carson-Newman University.
The Spartans enter the contest with a record of 13-4-5 and fresh off a victory defeating North Alabama, thanks to some late-game heroics scoring with just two seconds left in the match. The Buccaneers come into the matchup sporting a tally of 14-2-1. Last time out BU defeated West Florida 1-0.
UT has displayed a balanced attack all year, but senior Cici Gonzalez leads all players with 13 goals.Nastasia Asgedom, Korey O' Rourke have notched five goals each, and Lauren Cicero and Lauren Moore round out the offensive firepower with four goals apiece respectively. Utilizing their great field vision, Gabby Scirica and Miranda Gonzalez have combined for 14 assists on the year.
Defensively, Tampa's Caroline Frykgard and the Spartans' defensive unit have been in top form posting a 0.98 goals against average and four shutouts. Frykgard has tallied 95 saves on the campaign and boasts a 0.85 goals against average. She also leads the SSC with a save percentage of .847.
The NCAA South Regional Final marks the third time the two sides will face each other, the First coming during the regular season ending in a 1-1 draw. Barry took the second match 2-1 in a thrilling Sunshine State Conference Championship game.
