Spartans Play Host To Fighting Knights in Weekly SSC Bout
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa women's soccer team plays host to Sunshine State Conference foe Lynn UniversityFighting Knights on Wednesday night at Pepin Stadium.
The Spartans march into the contest with a record of 6-2-1 and a mark of 2-1 in SSC play. Last time out UT dropped a close match on the road to Embry-Riddle 1-0. The Fighting Knights enter the matchup sporting an overall record of 2-7-1 and 1-3 in conference play. Previously LU dropped a heartbreaking match to Florida Tech 1-nil.
Offensively, Tampa is led by Senior Cici Gonzalez, who leads the team in scoring with six goals and 13 points on the season. Providing the spark and setting the tone for the offense is Nastasia Asgedom utilizing her great vision as she leads the team with four assists along with notching three goals of her own. Also providing artillery support for the Spartans is Korey O'Rourke and Gabby Scirica. O'Rourke has recorded three scores on the season and Scirica has put away two finishers of her own.
Tampa's defense Is led by Miranda Gonzalez and Jess Moreno. The unit as a whole features a very talented group of defenders who have only conceited 11 goals on the year. Netminder Caroline Frykgard has collected 32 saves and registered a .762 save % on her way to posting a record of 6-1-1.
