
Spartans Start Off Week In Winning Fashion
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa women's soccer team played its last home contest of the regular season Monday night at Pepin Stadium, and emerged victorious 5-0.
Following the victory, Tampa improves to 10-3-3 on the season, while Webber drops to 4-10 on the year.
The Spartans put on offensive clinic, outshooting and outplaying the Warriors in every facet of the game. Tampa outshot Webber 15-8 and won the battle in set piece plays with 8 to 1.
Scoring for UT, Cici Gonzalez and Lauren Cicero both tallied two goals each. Also adding to the offensive attack was Hannah Watts, who notched her first goal of the season at the 27-minute mark. Gonzalez's performance put her in double digits as she recorded her 10th goal of the campaign at the season 74-minute mark.
Defensively, Tampa played phenominally, as they did not allow Webber to record a shot on goal all contest and held them to single digits in shots on the night. This match also marked the return of Senior co-captain defender Audrey Hayward, which sparked the team to return to early season form re-uniting the dynamic duo of Hayward and Miranda Gonzalez along the back line.
This Shutout marks just the Second shutout by the Spartans and goes down as a Team shutout as keeper Sydney Ross relieved Caroline Frykgard in the second half.
UT returns to action Thursday, as they travel to Mobile, Ala. to take on Spring Hill College in a regional matchup. Game time is set for a 4 p.m. CT start. Live stats and a broadcast will be available via TampaSpartans.com.
