Spartans Return Home for Embry-Riddle

TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa women's soccer team look to continue their success at home as they welcome Embry-Riddle to Pepin Stadium on Wednesday evening. The Spartans are unbeaten in the last five games at home. This match was originally scheduled for last Wednesday but was postponed due to Hurricane Michael. 

The Matchup: University of Tampa Spartans (5-4-4, 3-2-2 SSC) vs. Embry-Riddle Eagles (6-5-0, 4-3-0 SSC)

Last Time Out: Tampa were on the road Saturday as they faced Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla. The Spartans dropped the match 1-0 off the foot of Emily Weisberg who ripped an 18 yard rocket mid-way through the first half. It was the ninth match decided by one goal or less. UT has lost back-to-back matches for the first time this season. Megan Bromwell tallied two saves in the match, but did not have an opportunity in the second half as Lynn's offense went stagnant. 

About the Spartans: Tampa looks to secure their fourth conference win for the ninth consecutive season. The Spartans have only lost once at home this season, to Queens (N.C.) on September 7, but have collected three wins at Pepin Stadium since that loss. Moeko Morse leads the team with six goals on the season, which also leads all freshman in the Sunshine State Conference. The forward from Chesapeake, Va. has scored the most goals for a UT freshman since 2014 when Madison Cox registered six goals in 19 games played. Bromwell has tallied 41 saves in 13 games played. The sophomore transfer from Hamilton, NJ has earned two clean sheets in her first season as a Spartan. Nastasia Asgedom is third on the team with seven points as she's scored twice and assisted on three goals. 

About the Eagles: Embry-Riddle owns a perfect 6-0 home record, however they are 0-5 away from Daytona Beach. In their last match, the Eagles were taken down by Florida Southern 1-0 in part to a first half goal. Eva Jonsdottir leads the team with four goals in only four starts. Annie Gelnaw has logged five assists this season which leads the team, and is currently tied for third in the SSC. Embry-Riddle uses a committee at goal-keeper as Fanny Kristiansson and Dana Ruchti have spilt the starts in net. Ruchti has started the last two matches for the Eagles. 

All-Time Series: The programs have only met four previous times as the series started with back-to-back road matchups in 1998-1999. UT won both of those meetings and defeated Embry-Riddle at Pepin Stadium in 2016. The Eagles secured their first victory in the series last season by a 1-0 result, via a Julia Olsson goal. The Spartans are out-scoring Embry Riddle 8-4 in four games. 

Tickets: General Admission ticket prices for all Tampa regular season athletic events are $5. Youth (ages 12 and under) are admitted free of charge. Students and faculty/staff are admitted free with a valid UT ID.
